Students In Action Video Challenge Winner: Salesianum School Wilmington, DE

Back in early June, we set a challenge for the Students In Action schools that were joining us in Washington DC. We asked them to create a short video that captured both the Students In Action program and their trip to DC, as part of the Jefferson Awards National Ceremony. In particular, we asked them to show what the program means to them, their schools and their communities.

Five of our schools rose to the challenge, and each told their stories in different ways. We then turned to our Board of Selectors to help us in selecting the overall winner. After much deliberation (the feedback was unanimous - all of the videos were great), we do have a winner, and we're proud to announce that in addition to being the 2009 Jefferson Award Youth Service National Recipient for Outstanding Service By a High School, Delaware's Salesianum School adds the 2009 Students In Action Video Competition to their list of accomplishments.

Our thanks to all of the Students In Action schools that participated. All of the videos will be displayed on our website, and already they're being used to help other schools learn more about the program.

As part of their prize, representatives of Salesianum's Students In Action team will be guests of honor at the 2009 Celebrate Delaware event, hosted by Delaware’s First Lady Carla Markell. This event will take place on December 2nd, 2009 at Woodburn, the official residence of the Governor of Delaware.

Please join us in congratulating the Salesianum School Student Leaders; their Principal, Father William McCandless;  their Faculty Coordinator, Dolores Ballintyn; and their Leadership Coaches, Kyle Mason and Matthew Ballintyn.

We'd also like to congratulate the teams from Lake Brantley High School, Altamonte Springs, Florida; RB Stall High School, North Charleston, South Carolina; St. Agnes Academy, Memphis, Tennessee; and Livermore High School, Livermore, California.

Lastly, we'd like to thank all of our Students In Action Student Leaders, for your commitment to making a difference in your schools, in your communities, and most importantly, in yourselves. We’re now in 207 schools in 8 Leadership Communities across the country (Central Florida, Charleston, Chicago, Delaware, Memphis, San Francisco Bay Area, Savannah and Toledo), and with your passion, energy and commitment, we are well on our way to way to meeting our goal of being in 1,000 High Schools in 20 Leadership Communities by 2012.
